As a Mom, a Wife, an Entrepreneur, a Daughter, Friend, and Wellness Advocate, having so many roles and responsibilities can (at times) feel overwhelming!
That’s why I always (always) focus on my daily top priorities above and beyond anything else. If we start to stretch ourselves thin and care about too many things, the things that are most important start to lose our focus and we become scattered.
What are my top priorities? My health, my family, and being able to support other people’s health every day, in that order.
I can’t do anything or be of service to my family and community if my health isn’t optimal. Chronic and acute health issues can rob us of our precious time on this earth, and I want to spend as much of it as I can with the people I love, doing what I love.
So every single day, without question and without negotiation, I’m focused on these 5 things:
Sleep
Hydration
Meal Planning with Whole Foods
Movement
Stress Management
Every single one of those foundations has an incredible impact (for better or for worse) on my overall health mentally, physically, emotionally, and spiritually. Each is so powerful that it can support a powerful, wonderful day, or create a domino effect that leads to a very low performance day.
I don’t aim for perfection. I aim to keep each of those areas in top shape through habits and consistency every day. Like doing my best to sleep 8 hours a night as best I can, filtering my water and adding minerals, taking exercise classes that bring me joy and strengthen my body, etc.
Family time and being there for my daughter, husband, Mom, and closest friends (who I consider family) is only second because as mentioned, without my health I can’t show up for them at my best and truly support them. They are the loves of my life and my biggest cheerleaders. I want to be there for them as much as possible.
Then lastly, my calling. I’ve been a Nutritionist helping transform people's health for the better for over 15 years. It’s an honor and a privilege to serve those who are desiring healing, whether it be from an eating disorder, gut health issues, weight management, or simply trying to find their own “balance.”
Which brings me to my final reminder for myself and all of you. We can’t maintain perfect balance every single day. Life throws us curveballs. The kids get sick, we have a bad night’s sleep despite our best efforts, the pet throws up and needs to go to the vet, you name it! Life happens.
I always aim to do my best to keep up with those 5 non-negotiables because then I’m better able to handle those inevitable curveballs of life with greater grace and ease. It truly keeps me sane and driven to “keep calm and carry” on despite all the challenges that come with living life.
So next time you are seeking balance, remember to start with your 5 Foundations of Health first, and to remind yourself in those moments what is truly most important to you.
You can’t give everyone and everything 100% of your time, attention, and energy, but you can give your best self to your top priorities. That’s what matters most.
